Desert Gala aims to raise funds for Waiouru school transport
By Michele Monaghan The Waiouru Parent Teacher Association held its second meeting last week with a decision being made that funds from the desert gala now being planned will go into providing some sort of transportation for the school.
PTA chairperson Elizabeth Carver said the PTA were hoping to draw knowledge from people who have been involved in past Desert Galas to keep planning on the right track. All parents will get a copy of the meeting' s minutes and from subsequent meetings will be
sent a brief summary, said Mrs Carver. She said she is impressed with the enthusiasm shown by the new PTA but urges other interested parents to attend meetings. "I don't like long meetings so we won'tkeep (people) long," she said.
"People have to feel that they are welcome to be involved. They don' t have to be really good at anything, they just have to come." The PTA has planned a working bee for Sunday 2 July at 1.00pm to prune some trees that are in danger of poking someone's
eye out. Mrs Carver said she hoped parents would spare some of their time to help out with this chore. The next meeting is on 19 July where sub-committees for the Desert Gala will probably be formed. "If anyone has done it before, has ideas or can provide input, will they please come. We promise to have the heaters on," laughed Mrs Carver.
