Power company gives $20,000
Local organisations benefited to the extent of more than $20,000 in sponsorship from King Country Energy in the past financial year. The largest single beneficiary was the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre near Turangi, which received assistance towards the electrical work in new student accommodation chalets being constructed at the centre. General manager Peter Till says the OPC support is a good example of the type of sponsorship arrangement that King Country Energy enters into. "This is very much a 'win-win' situation, in that OPC was abletoputfundstootheruses. Wegainadditionalload as a direct result of their development; and students from all round Now Zealand enjoy better facilities." Mr Till said King Country Energy has a firm sponsorship policy, in that it will only support individuals or organisations with a direct link to the company; or will produce a direct benefit for King Country Energy' s customers. Usually this support has taken the form of services or qiaterial provided, He said sponsorship is required to produce a return on investment for King Country Energy, as compared with donations, which are a straight charitable gift. Among those to recei ve sponsorship from King Country Energy in 1994/95 were: Ruapehu College Science Fair; Ruapehu College Student Work Scheme; Ohakune Primary School and Owhango Primary School, Stoves in Schools Programme; Waimarino Community Sports and
Education Development Trust, Ruapehu Sports Festival Service Awards Cup; Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre.
