Pre-school joins computer age

Ohakune Kindergarten children are the latest to join the computer age following the purchase of an Apple Macintosh LCIII machine. Kindergarten teachers Yvonne Triggell and Sharon Wilton said before the decision was made to buy it, they observed a computer in use in a kindergarten in Wanganui and that they also surveyed parents' views. "It's a great tool for extending the older chi ldren," said Sharon. "1 ' ve never seen anything that can help teach the children faster," said Yvonne. She said with the computer came programs designed for pre-school learning which cover colours, shapes, number and letter recognition in great graphics and matching games. Money for the purchase came from the Ohakune Hotel Pub Charity and the McCarthy Trust Wanganui .
