Ohakune garden club

The May meeting of the Ohakune Garden Club was held at the home of Nita and Bruce Wilde, with 10 members present. After the formalities the group was addressed by .Noel Gilbert a chrysanthemum expert from Taihape. Mr Gilbert grows up to 3000 plants in his establishment including summer flowering outdoor varieties and the under-cover autumn flowering types for showing and marketing. He brought several blooms for club members to look at. They appeared magnificent blooms to club members, though Mr Gilbert said they were about to be consigned to the rubbish dump. Members learnt a lot about the cultivation of

these flowers and hope to arrange a visit to Mr Gilbert' s garden in the summer. Competition results: Chrysanthemums: 1st Gayle Dickison, 2nd and 3rd Nita Wilde. Flower of choice: 1st Fran Frew, 2nd Nita Wilde 3rd Fran Frew. Shrub of choice: 1st Maureen Warren, 2nd & 3rd Fran Frew.
