Skiing starts
Skiing started for beginners for the 1995 season on Sunday at Happy Valley, Whakapapa. 40cm of natural snow during the week with some additional man-made snow set the slopes up to open, although conditions on Sunday werepoor, with high winds. Skiing forintermediate and advanced skiers was expected to start later in June. Meanwhile at Turoa storms brought a fresh blanket of snow, with 10cm on the upper field by Friday and more on the weekend. Turoa is expecting, based on history, to open mid-late June with the weekend weather putting Turoa "right on track" for this.
