Pony club riders compete at champs
The picturesque Poverty Bay showgrounds were the venue for the recent New Zealand Pony Club Teams Horse Trial Championships. The organising area — GisborneAV airoa — provided great facilities with the horses also staying on the showgrounds. Dressage was performed in picket arenas, the cross country course was superbly designed and built and the show jumping course rode well. The three King Country representatives, Amanda Garland riding The Shadow, Kelly Godfrey and Schnapps and Marnie Wenn on Highland Guard performed very well with Kelly ending the competition on her dressage score. Amanda and Marnie were clear cross country also but each took a rail in the show jumping to add five penalty points to their dressage scores. It was a great effort by the three riders and their experience holds well for the future. Unfortunately having only three riders meant King Country did not feature in the teams competition however they were placed third in the horse management awards. Theteamwasably assistedby the teams groom Victoria Duigan and trainer Jeanette Garrett BHSI who met the riders for the first time at Gisborne.
