Bull sale pleases Okahu growers
Pat and Kelly O' Neill held the first New Zealand bull sale for the year at their Okahu stud farm last Monday. Together with Mrs O' Neill and Clare, the bulls were presented for sale in top condition for the 25th annual sale. Buyers came from Rotorua, Hawkes Bay, Manawata, Wanganui, Taumarunui and interested groups from the Wairraapa. The top price of $5230 was for Okahu Imperial, sired by Okahu Delivery out of the dam Okahu Princess 39; the purchaser from northern Hawkes Bay. Local buyers, including those from Wanganui, took advantage of the opportunity to purchase close to home. In speaking with Kelly later, he said the family and auctioneers were more than pleased with the way things went, considering the market is still low. He said their bulls purchased this year will have matured well in two years. As this is the first sale for the year, future buyers will look to Okahu prices to compare.
