$2000 to $3000 has been raised with all sorts coming out of the woodwork - all keen on fashion and definitely interested in partying on into the wee small hours. The last twenty years of rock and roll will be belted out after supper and the parade. And if that doesn't take your fancy, the cocktail bar upstairs will be open for those who prefer more genteel surroundings.
This year the proceeds will go to the Ohakune V olunteer Fire Brigade rescue fund, and the money will probably be used to upgrade or replace the jaws part of the jaws of life equipment. Master of Ceremonies is Brian Hemara, staunch member of the Ohakune Fire Brigade and definitely promising to be a hilarious entity. The rest of the brigade will be present in full uniform. According to Paul Beckett they were going to be the calendar boys for The Firemans Calendar, but there bodies wouldn't stand the pace. Just in case there is a real fire the brigade had the forethought to book two spaces for their fire trucks outside the Flot Lava. The theme of the fashion parade is "Fire!" with victim mannequins being hosed down by mannequin fire fighters alongside the red lights and other pyromania props dekking out the night club. Models drawn from all walks of the community are in the parade and they 've been practising for the past few evenings so as to give a perfect performance. Ruapehu College will perform "Evolve If ' — a dramatic dance sequence they performed at the State Challenge in Palmerston North where they won the regional final. This will be the only opportunity for the public to see the performance before the group performs live on television
in the national finals on Sunday. Other entertainment during the evening will include spot prizes courtesy of New Zealand Breweries and organisers say it will be well worth while putting your best glad rags on as you could win a voucher from Sam and Libbys (gals) or Jean City (guys) for the best dressed man or woman. Jim Bolger was invited but sadly couldn't come, and Paul couldn't think of any other celebs to invite so it'll just have to be us — the Winning Waimarino community. Around 200 - 250 people are expected and Paul Beckett warns that the show will start on time so don't be tardy. This year the entries are: The Junction Ski Shop with ski and board apparel, Sam and Libbys featuring a work, country and evening collection, Williams and Kettle with outdoor fashion clothing for men and women, and Jean City showing off their everyday casual wear. "It's a great cause and a great night out — see you there!" said organiser Paul Beckett.
