Small group gets stuck into Waiouru station clean-up
The working bee at Waiouru Railway Station went so well another one will be held this Sunday 4 June starting at 9.30am. Although only a small group turned up for work on the day, coordinator Lyn Lumsden said she has had a lot of positive comments from people in the community so work is forging ahead. Sunday has been chosen this time as people have sporting commitments on Saturdays, Lyn said. Priorities have changed slightly with weatherproofing of the waiting area becoming the main focus and painting taking a back seat for the moment. Lyn will be tracking down perspex type strips to act as windows for the waiting area. These will be ready for a dab hand with a hammer to nail up on Saturday along with some boarding for a couple of windows. Lyn will also be buying a sensor light for the waiting area that will need installing. Several trailer loads of rubbish were taken away last week and application will be made to the Ruapehu District Council for the installation of a rubbish bin. "People naturally throw rubbish all over the place if there's nowhere to put it," Lyn said. A word of warning if nature calls while you're waiting foratrain you'lljusthaveto wait. Lyn said the 'tinkler' is so disgusting it will have to be taken away. "No amount of Jiff will fix that," she grimaced.
