Motocross rider close to the top

Shaun Fredericksen of Raetihi came the closest he' s ever come to winning the New Zealand National Motocross Championship title this year, when he was pipped at the post into second place by just one race. Shaun, now aged 14, has been racing since he was 1 1 . Last year he was fifth in the 14-15 age group championship and now he's number two in New Zealand. In the first round on day one there were seven races each of 15 minutes duration. At the end of the day Shaun was sitting first equal with Cam Anderson from Auckland, who took the title on the second day to win two of three races ahead of Shaun. Recently Shaun won gold in the New Zealand Suzuki Dealer Network 1995, MX Grand Prix event held at Woodville. Another up-and-coming champion is

young Robbie Lilburn, aged 11, who alsocompetedat the New Zealand . Championships in the 8-11

year old 85 cc motocross event and came 10th . in the final.
