Toys plan success before it starts

BY

W aiouru' s Plunket president Julie B att got more than she bargained for when she approached the Waiouru Returned Services Association for a donation for an upcoming auction. Mrs Batt nearly fell over when RSA President A1 Wheeler presented the so-

ciety with a cheque for $500 on Thursday night. "I didn't know what to expect," said a very happy Mrs Batt, "certainly not five hundred dollars." In her acceptance speech Mrs Batt said the money will be used specifically to start up a toy library. "With this we should just

about be on the road to opening," she said. In the past few weeks Mrs Batt has approached the business community for donations to be auctioned this Saturday starting at 10am (viewing starts at 9am). The auction will be held at the community hall sup-

per room and is to raise funds to start a toy library for the Waiouru community. Items to be auctioned include a motorbike, an old time radio, a black and white television and a near new exercycle. "Plus a lot of little bits and pieces that will probably be auctioned as a lot,"

Mrs Batt said. Caltex Waiouru has donated oil and car products while Waiouru Pricecutter have donated a box of groceries. Aldo' s have donated two $10 fish and chip vouchers as well as two pizza vouchers and Waiouru Meat Mart will provide 10 kilograms of sausages for the sausage sizzle. Waiouru RSA came to the party for the auction also. On top of their donation Mr Wheeler has volunteered his services as auctioneer.
