Parapara appeal raises $3500
Chris Windle was very pleased with the support and funds raised last Friday for the Parapara Fire Appeal, organised to help the family of Miranda Pointon who lost her baby in the fire at her Parapara home. Both Ohakune and Raetihi communities got behind the fund raiser without question. At Raetihi the luncheon saw a number of workers come in and meals were served to them as take aways, with others enjoying lunch at a more leisurely pace. Harriett Paraniti provided lunchtime entertainment on the piano, with some lively old-time favourites. In the evening, the Maungarongo Rangatahi group entertained providing a variety of spiritual, contemporary, poi, haka and modern rap and ending their part of the program with a well-harmonised rendition of "Going to the Chapei". A local band also entertained and various raffles were run. Daniel Mills also showed great ability to con the "last dollar' out of willing participants in a grocery auction. Although a final tally is not at hand, Raetihi 's effort stands at $2420 and it is understood Ohakune' s Hobbit Restaurant meals raised about $1300.
