Taumarunui promotions groups to merge

Taumarunui 's two promotion and development groups look set to merge, with possible implications for the south of the district. Representatives from ProTaum and Taumarunui Development Incorporated along with Ruapehu District Council staff and councillors have held two meetings about a possible merger. "Whilst the organisation would initially focus on the northern part of the Ruapehu District there would be provision in its objects for southern organisations to become affiliated to it and for it to perform functions in the southern part," said Council chief executive Cliff Houston. The new organisation would be involved in training; 'Be Your Own Boss' programme; major projects including business development; Mainstreet; and events including sports festivals.
