Donna Cranston returned from Australia after competing in the Australia and New Zealand badminton
team events — her central district team doing very well coming 7th overall. Auckland were clear-cut winners and never lost a game. The South Island team came in 13th position. Competition was very tough with all competitors playing nine days in a row. Next year the competition is in Sydney and Donna is hoping to make the team again next year. On Sunday 30 April, three local girls travelled to the Oroura Junior Open. They were Cathy and Donna Cranston and Eileen Voon. With over 30 competitors in the under- 1 6 age group from all over central districts area, competition was very competitive. Donna was runner up in the singles and paired up with Eileen and won the doubles. Donna also won the mixed doubles. Eileen received a special umpires' award.
On Monday 1 May the Primary Juniors had a round robin competition. All players were winners as they were introduced to competitive games in a fun way. The rep players from the club have a busy time ahead of them over the May holidays. Two under 1 8 players head off to Auckland for team competition and then in the second week of the holidays four under-16 players spend six days in Palmerston North to play in teams events. The juniors have received a grant from the Hotel Sports Charity Fund and this will be put towards uniforms for rep players
