Cops take top spot in tumble quiz
A team of local policemen demonstrated their spermiologist leanings last Friday night when they won the annual Turoa Tumblers quiz night competition held at Turoa Lodge. There were 17 teams vying for the top prize in the 100-question quiz as well as bags of Minties for wacky answers and for coming last — the traditional spot for the local fire brigade team. Second place was taken by the 'Short Fuses' team, and coming third equal were the Bulletin team and the DoC/Turoa team. The Bulletin officially took third place after a musical tie-breaker which saw two contestants dancirig on the chairs to be first to answer.
Minties winners for wacky (wrong) answers included: Name the boys in the programme My Three Sons: Steve, George, Dick, (up) Chuck and Timmy the Dog. What is a Farfallone?: a fall off a cliff; someone who needs to say pardon; a Fijian mollusc related to the abalone. What street is Raetihi School on: I got lost on the way (that's why we're last). Name the monk credited with producing the first champagne: St Bernadino of Asti. What is the term for a young fox: Julie Nation. What does a spermiologist collect: Spunky whales. (TuroaTumblers assureus that a spermiologist collects trivia).
