Waimarino Golf
Once again this past weekend had a full agenda for the golfing enthusiast. Though the weather has strongly intimated that winter is only just around the corner the numbers to teeoff in local and away fixtures continues to be high. On Saturday the ladies held their annual opening day with strong contingents from both local and outside clubs. 42 ladies faced the
starter in a well organised and highly successful tournament. Saturday also saw the men's Presidents Trophy team travel to the Rangatira Club (just north of Hunterville) to play against their local team in the second round of this competition. The team of J Ennis, B Drinkwater, P Goldfinch, A Murdie Jnr, J Purcell, G Lind, H Geraghty and A Murdie Snr. performed very well to come away with a half. On Sunday J Hammond, A Condon, D Herewini and G Wallis represented the men's committee in the Glendining Cup on a very heavy Taihape course. For President, John Hammond, this was a new experience (playing at Taihape) and it seems not one he is keen to repeat again during winter conditions. The team was placed eighth out of 17.
There was a normal club day on Sunday with strong entries of ladies, junior and senior men. Results: ladies lst S Lind nett 66; 2nd P Mowatt 73. Juniors : 1 st A Murdie Snr 70; 2nd J Murphy 7 1 ; 3rd R Spry 7 1 ; seniors: lst B Drinkwater 65; 2nd T Geraghty 66; 3rd A Muride jnr 69; 4th J Corbett 69.
