Button roundabouts explained
Criticism of the new roundabouts in Ohakune needed to be addressed and not ignored, councillor Bob Peck stated at last week' s Ruapehu District Council meeting. He said there was concern that the roundabouts were poorly designed and that there had been a letter to the editor published in the Ruapehu Bulletin that should be answered, explaining the situation. The criticism was that trucks could not
drive around the roundabouts without driving over the central island. Council engineer Bruce Dobson said the roundabouts were built as intendedrM "button roundabouts". 'They are designed and build so that large trucks can drive over them (the^pentral island, or "button")," he explained to councillors. "That's exactly the way it is supposed to work."
