Pony Club success at Timberlands
Being placed 1 7th out of the 35 competitive teams at the Timberlands N.I.P.C. teams event was a very pleasing result for the young and relatively inexperienced Waimarino P.C. team of Kelly Godfrey riding Schnapps, Amanda Garland - The Shadow, Adrian Fetzer - Silver, Victoria Duigan Chamahl, Nicola Smith -Pal-O-Mine and Marni McGregor - Sharebroker. The team was ably assisted by groom and reserve Hone Brausch. The dressage and show jumping was held at Matarawa Park, a venue only just big enough to hold the 209 competitors. The Waimarino riders competed simultaneously in the six dressage arenas and all rode very good tests with Nicole Smith and Pal-O-Mine producing personal
bests. The show jumping followed and five out of six riders went clear to place Waimarino 14th after the first day of competition. Fog and slippery conditions made for careful riding for the 8.30am cross country start. All members rode positive rounds over a quite demanding course resulting in clear rounds by Amanda Garland and Victoria Duigan, the remaining four rounds each had 20 jumping faults. The experience gained by the team holds well for the future and thanks go to the parents and supporters who helped to make the weekend such a success. The competition was won by Hamilton, 2nd Rotorua and 3rd Te Awamutu P.C.
