Offices on the move
After the demolition of the old house and the removal of the building that housed Virtuosity craft shop to Rangataua recently, the house movers shifted the two segments of the Peach Cornwall & Partners building onto the Ayr Street Ohakune site last Thursday. Footpath reaction to the departure of the accountancy firm from Raetihi was somewhat negati ve, with comments such as "yet another business closing its doors in Raetihi" recorded. Some expressed puzzlement at one of the firm' s reasons for the move — that more sophisticated computer links via Telecom were able to be set up through the Ohakune exchange in comparison to the Raetihi exchange. "With five Raetihi businesses having computer link ups, we wonder what is so very different (to the account-
ancy firm's requirements)," said one observer. Glitches in the paper work held up the shift of the Virtuosity building, leaving the house movers in limbo for some hours. According to the building' s buyer, irregularities with regard to the permitted use of the land had to be sorted out. He spoke very favourably about the council's efforts in sorting out the mess. In fact the Bulletin, following up reports that the council paperwork was the cause of the hold-ups, was told by Ruapehu District Council chief executive Cliff Houston that the resource consent application and building consent application had been received just days before the move and that they normally require 10 working days to process a building consent application and 20 working days for a resource consent application.
