Truckies at it in rafts

By

Being in the army is not all work and no play — members of the Royal New Zealand Corps of Transport in Waiouru banded together for a fun raft race at Robinson' s Pond last Thursday. Five teams lined up for the start of a race of sabotage, missile throwing (eggs, flour bombs, paddles etc), in other words no-holds-barred all-out dirty tactics. One team and their raft 'Slack Magic' didn't make it past the start line. 'Slack Magic', once in the water, promptly turned upside down throwing off all the crew before turning into a submarine (an Australian design perhaps?). A stiff headwind whipped the water and walking proved to be the fastest method of combating this. (The race umpire deemed walking acceptable tactics.) 'The Truckies' took line honours even though one of their team members sustained an injury to an arm requiring a truck trip to the hospital.
