Fun jogger first woman on bridge run
A local recreational jogger succeeded beyond all expectations (certainly her own!) when she entered Wanganui 's 'Around the Bridges' fun run recently. A surprised and delighted Lil Shanks of Ohakune came second overall and first woman home ahead of hundreds of others and only a short distance behind the winner who was within her sights but who she was unable to overtake at the end of the 1 1km run on Sunday 9 April.
The race which started in Taupo Quay took in Somme Parade and Anzac Parade traversing the Aramoho Footbridge, Dublin Street Bridge and the Victoria Avenue Bridge before retuming to the start/finish stage in Taupo Quay. Lil's time of 58 minutes 24 seconds was two minutes longer than her time last year but on that occasion she was placed sixth overall. Her second placing this year more than compensated for her slightly slower time.
