This year's Raetihi wood chopping competition held on Sunday 16 April saw an increased number of entrants. The Easter break produced excellent weather with good crowd support. Wood splints flew as the day' s competition heated up. Local chopper Ken Prince did well to make the finals of the 300mm under-hand chop, though not amongst the final winners it was great to see Ken still 'cutting it' with the best. Competitors came from all over the central North Island and event organiser Mike Chaytor said that without the sponsors there would be no competition. Sponsors and helpers were: Winstone Pulp International, Tangiwai Sawmill, Dempsey Buses, McCarthy Transport, Raetihi Cosmopolitan Club, Ruapehu Farm Supplies, Waimarino Shears, Cross-Country Fencing, Hiscox Transport, Starline Services, Clowns, Faunmac, Tom Mowat, George
