Rally round Waimarino attracts

country's top drivers

Motorsport action is once again heading for the Waimarino, with 88 cars coming to compete in the Powderhorn Chateau Snowline Rally 1995 on Saturday 22 April. The rally, organised by Wellington Car Club, will be covering a gruelling 197km of special stages run in the Karioi Forest and over local public roads, culminating in a flying climb up the Ohakune Mountain Road. This year' s Rally is the first Division 2 round of the New Zealand Rally Championship and has attracted a number of the country's top competitors. Leading the field and looking for his 6th successive win of the event will be Joe McAndrew in his flying Subaru Legacy. Keen to keep his unbroken record in his club rally he is bound to be on the pace right from the start. But he won't be alone in front with Jeff Argyle in his Nissan Pulsar GTiR, Will Orr in a new Subaru Impreza, and

Reece Jones back with his Lancer all pushing hard and keeping the competition honest. This year sees the return of Marty Roestenburg in a new Evolution III Lancer along with Ross Meekings in his Celica adding to the challenge. In Formula 2 David Black will be looking to retain his class wins. The central region has Lee Dudley returning with the mighty Toyota powered Hillman Imp, hoping to continue his fast times after winning the series last year. Rally Manager Bernie Keith says this year's Ohakune Rally is shaping up to be very competitive and closely fought with the top competitors all looking to gain vital first round points for each of the series the rally incOrporates. In addition to the New Zealand Championship the rally also counts for points in the Street Skills Rally Scholarship and

Rally Challenge, along with the Central Region Rally Championship. For people who are looking to head along and watch, free spectators guides will be available at the BP Service Station in Ohakune and the Ohakune Information Centre on the day and over the week
