Massage marathon Monday
Monday 24 April to Sunday 30 April is National Massage Awareness Week and local therapeutic massage practitioners are holding a "massagathon" in the shop next to the BNZ in Ohakune on Monday 24 April, 12 noon to 6pm to mark the week. "Massage is fast becoming accepted in New Zealand as an important part of everyday health care. It is no longer being seen as alternative medicine, but as a wonderful rehabilitation and preventative health measure and it feels great!" says practitioner Glyn Hubbard. Free 10-15 minute massages will be available from local therapists at the massagathon and Glyn says if you've never had a massage, this is a great way to get a "feel" for what its about. And no, you don't have to take any clothes off for these short sessions. Busy lives take their toll on the body, and massage provides time out from tensions, and a chance for the body to totally relax and heal, said Glyn. He added that therapeutic massage is recommended for reduction of chronic stress, tension release, relief of pain, injury rehabilitation and prevention, lymph drainage, recovery from exercise, improved joint mobility, increased body awareness, reduction of discomfort during pregnancy, and general relaxation. It can also effectively treat headache, migraine, back and neck pain, strains, sprains, muscle spasms, sports injuries, arthritis, constipation, menstrual pain, and insomnia.
