Weaner prices down

A large crowd was present at Raetihi 'sfirst Weaner Fair for 1995 last Thursday. The weather was perfect, ideal for drafting the cattle, allowing for a fairly smooth run and keeping the auctioning brisk. Nationwide the market remains depressed and it was accepted that the prices would be quite a bit lower than last year. The majority of cattle presented were of Charlois/Semmental cross. Prices for steers averaged $240 with top prices of $337 from Ngapuke Station. Heifer prices went from around $205 to $282.
