POLICE FILE

Offenders attempted to break into a Queen Street, Raetihi, holiday home recently but were foiled by a deadlock and burglar alarm. An attempted was made to gain entry by smashing one of four glass panels in the front door. Police enquiries, by way of fingerprints taken at the scene, are continuing. A large amount of cash was stolen from the office of the Ohakune Hotel overnight on 2 April 1995. Proceeds from the hotel' s poker machines and pool tables were taken from the unattended office that was locked at the time of the offence. Entry is believed to have been gained via sliding glass windows in the office. Offenders stole a 1986 Nissan Utility from outside a Ward Street, Raetihi, residence overnight 1 April 1995. The owner of the vehicle left the keys under the driver's seat and the vehicle was simply driven away by offenders. A Seddon Street, Raetihi, holiday home was believed to have been slept in by offenders who smashed a window to gain entry. A search of the premises had been untaken but Police were unsure what property had been stolen. The offenders left the scene after a neighbour came to investigate noises coming from the unoccupied house.
