Bush & hats feature in Raetihi School week

Bush mural Raetihi 's junior school were out and about recently with their teachers on a small trek to the bush to learn first-hand about the bush and its natural environment. An interesting and fun time was had by all. Teachers and assistants - Barbara Luff, Maureen Fowlie, Bonny Bramley and Monica Jones - lent a hand and showed the children ho w to make their o wn bush mural, bringing the outdoors inside. "The junior school can be very proud of their effort which is very eye-catching and can be seen in the foyer of the main entrance to the school," said one commentator. Hats on This year the school decided to raise funds for the 40-hour (World Vision), Famine in a rather fun and

novei way. The children were encouraged to wear hats and bring a coin. During assembly they had an opportunity to parade around showing off some of their creative skills. Everyone had a lot of fun and the effort that went into someof the hats did not go unnoticed. The amount raised for World Vision was $ 1 1 1 .60. New staff Cindy Hiroti was welcomed to the school last Tuesday as the newly appointed kai reo. Her role is to assist in theory, oral and hands-on-explanation of all learning skills from the translation of English to Maori within the Bilingual unit. A Powhiri in the traditional manner was given to Mrs Hiroti.

Next term Mrs Robyn Olds will take up the position of assistant principal. Mrs Olds was the sole charge teacher at Orautoha school for four years before

taking up a teaching position at Ohakune Primary School where she has been since February. Mrs Olds will work in the junior department.
