Council meetings can drag on and be boring. But there is the odd ray of sunshine, often in the form of banter between councillors John Compton and Bob Peck. Last Friday a little "pearler" popped out during discussion on Raetihi' s settling ponds signs. They drifted onto the subject of the "welcome to Raetihi" signs, which Mr Peck said were poorly located outside the cemetery. He joked that they would look better next to the settling ponds. "Either way you're interred," quipped Mr Compton.
