Gardeners roam streets for the best

Two garden competitions were judged recently. The Ohakune Garden Ciub members competition was won by Frances Frew, Lakes Road, Ohakune, The Civic Pride competition is a competition where gardens in the old Borough of Ohakune are judged from the road. The prize is donated by the Ruapehu District Council. First prize equal this year was shared by Sandra Bergerson and Kerry Drink water, and Eiwyn Costello. Results of the competitions are as follows: Civic Pride: 1st equal S Bergerson and Kerry Drinkwater, Elwyn Costello; 3rd Elaine Roberts Mangawhero Terrace; Commended were Pam Young, Bill Te Karu, Graham and Judy Parker, Merriiyn George. Ohakune Garden Club members competition: 1st Fran Frew; 2nd Peggy Frew; 3rd equal Lois McQuarrie and Lorraine Taylor. The judge, Leigh Ryland, commented on the high quality of the gardens both town and country and said it was extremely difficult to judge.
