Lions promise to finish playground soon

Work on the Christie Park playground, stalled since before Christmas, should start moving again, says the voluntary organisation that has taken on the task of setting up the equipment. A sliding rail and swing are still to be erected, then bark spread under the equipment for safety. Ruapehu Lions took on the job, after the local Plunket group raised funds and lobbied the Ruapehu District Council for funding assistance, then worked on the design and purchase of the equipment.

Lions spokesman Mike Fetzer said the club had hoped to have the project completed long before now but that they had been extremely busy with other projects such as the building of the Tangiwai Memorial toilets. "It' s been a manpower problem. We need two or three guys including a builder on the job (Christie Park) and we haven't been able to coordinate it yet," he said. "We've been over committed."
