Towns snapped from the air

A contract has been let to an aerial photography company to photograph the main urban areas in the District. Preliminary work involves marking service covers in the areas. Residents in the areas to be photographed may have noticed that sewer manhole lids are painted white and stormwater manhole lids are painted with a white cross. These markings will be used to determine and record the exact locations of the services. The manhole locations will then be recorded on a computer mapping system known as GIS (Geographic Information System) which is used by Council to record information of the services it operates.
