Retailers gear up for wheels carnival

The Ohakune Retailers group gathered for their annual meeting last week and elected Penny Sands (Sam & Libby's shop manager) as chairperson. Glenys Shepherd was elected secretary/treasurer. Among other business discussed was the action

plan for the Carnival of Wheels, 24-26 March. She outlined the Mainstreet Carnival Dollars scheme, whereby "carnival dollars", printed in the Bulletin , can be used in Ohakune shops.. Also planned for the weekend was a large tent for the gala day, Saturday 25 March. Ninety metres of tent space was available for stalls, the meeting was told. Sites cost $20. A ferris wheel is to be set up, by Dennis Buckingham, opposite BP in Clyde Street Also discussed was the production of an Ohakune brochure which would include a calendar of events. Ruapehu District Council marketing manager Bruce Rollinson said the marketing unit would be willing to support the brochure production financially. Introduced to the group was Geoff Anderson, Peak FM's new owner. He told the group that they plan to
