Principal meeting in Ohakune

School principals from around the southern North Island gathered in Ohakune last week for a special conference. Principals from the Ruapehu Principal' s Association hosted the event, welcoming representatives from schools from Wanganui, Taumarunui, Palmerston North, Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay areas. The head of the Education Review Office (ERO) in Wellington, Judith Aitken, spoke to the group as did lan Hill, manager for ERO in the Central West area. The conference was reported to be "extremely success-

ful". About 30 were present at a dinner on Tuesday night, 7 March, were writer Bill Taylor, who is a past principal of Ohakune Primary School, spoke of his life, writing and teaching. Many left the next day but more joined the group, keeping the numbers at around 30. Turoa Ski Resort general manager Angus Grimwade spoke to the group about the ski field, its history, and some of the ski packages available.
