Rural road works

The Ruapehu District Council' s road maintenance contractor is currently working on shape grading all rural unsealed roads. This work will be completed by the end of April, advises the council. After the work is carried out there could be problems initially with the road surface. Heavy rain soon after the road is graded will cause the surface to become slippery and difficult to drive on. Motorists should take particular care in these circumstances. When the road dries out remedial work will be carried out and the road surface should then last for several months with only minor work required, states the council in their latest press release.
