Ohakune body shaper rates in Australia

Cary Hubbard of Ohakune was in the fivestrong New Zealand body building team that took on Australia' s best in Sydney last week, Sunday 26 February, atthe 1995 Australasian Bodybuilding Championships. The Kiwi team was the most successful to date, gaining three first and two second places in their grades.

Cary competed in the open body shaping class for the first time, the New Zealand selectors having recognised her dance and gy mnastics skills. Currently the New Zealand National Junior champion, Cary was required to present a new routine to difficult requirements, and was placed second overall. "Body shaping is for

women who want to do weight training seriously yet don't want to gain the awesome size of body builders," said Cary. "You don't have to diet as strictly or lose as much body fat as body builders." "It's an athletic, welltoned feminine look with muscular definition, but not that chiselled, bulging muscle of hard core body builders." "There is a much more attainable feminine emphasis, with your presentation as a whole being judged. You need good all-round shape and tone," said Cary. The competition was the most prestigious that Cary had entered in her career to date and she believes that it is the way she would like to go. She said body shaping is sure to take off in New Zealand within the next fi ve years. Two hours of aerobics and one hour of weights per day was enough to keep Cary's physique for body shaping. This allows 'sculpting' as opposed to 'building' . Vegetables, lean meat and high protein foods formed the main part of her diet together with about two Turn to Page 2

She said taking a break from body building was not uncommon and in fact it was healthy. A qualified personal trainer, Cary Hubbard has a job lined up at a London gym and is looking forward to her big 'OE'. "I'm nervous and excited about leaving New Zealand." Before she left Cary said she wanted to thank all the people who wished her well in her endeavours.
