Waiouru move for a better life

By

Michele

Monaghan

After several different jobs ranging from running a farm to running a supermarket, John and Sue Cresswell are turning their hand to fresh fruit apd vegetables. Originally from Te Awamutu and then Auckland, John and Sue packed up their three children and came to Waiouru to open the Vegemart on SH1. John explains that he was working shiftwOrk in Auckland and had been looking for something^lse. "Life's got to be better than that," he said. When the couple became aware of the Vegemart opportunity they said they decided to go for it. Sue's sister Rachel and her husband Kelvin Bell of Waiouru Meatmart have entered into partnership with John and Sue and will be selling meat lines out of the Vegemart. Sue told the Bulletin that the Vegemart has to pay extra for the health licence required to sell both lines out of the same outlet. She explained that the meat will not be processed at the Vegemart. That will be done up at the Meatmart in the community centre. She also said that meat prices will be the same at both outlets. John and Sue say that their aim is to fill the supply and demand of the Waiouru community. If a customer needs something the Vegemart does nOt have, all they have to do is ask and John and Sue said they will try their best to produce the goods. They said they will also be starting to stock a number of specialty items. The couple' s other main interest involves their three children, Peter (15), Jackie (14) and Jennifer (13). Peter had to quit his job to come to Waiouru with the family. The two girls were representative netball players for North Harbour. Sue and John said they are keen to let the girls continue with their passion for netball. All three children attend Ruapehu College in Ohakune.
