Tongariro in paint

The recent official opening of Taupo' s largest ever exhibition of paintings was an unprecedented success. Entitled "A Portrait of Tongariro National Park," the Val Raymond exhibition was blessed by representatives of Ngati Tuwharetoa before being officially opened by the Minister of Conservation, Hon Denis Marshall. Forty-six paintings were sold at the official exhibition opening, a record for Taupo. During the first three days of public viewing a further 19 paintings were sold. The exhibition is open to the public seven days a week from 10.30am to 4.30pm until 2 March 1995. It is being held at the Taupo District Museum of Art and History.
