Army pomp a feature of the Show
The privilege of "marching with drums beating, band playing, colours flying, bayonets fixed and swords drawn" through the streets of the towns of the Ruapehu District is
to be conferred upon Waiouru's 4th Logistic Regiment. The ceremonial charter parade to mark the occasion is to be held at this Saturday's Waimarino Agricul-
tural and Pastoral Show at the showgrounds on Parapara Road, Raetihi. Ruapehu District mayor Garrick Workman said the council accepted the approach from the regiment, which formalises a relationship which has been in place for several years between the 4th Supply Company, a sub-unit of the regiment, and Raetihi. Mr Workman said Taumarunui has had many charter parades as has Ohakune, with its prior association with the nowdecommissioned HMNZS Irirangi, so it was appropriate that a Raetihi occasion was chosen. "We could think of no better day than Show Day," said Mr Workman. Along with the Freedom of the District, the regiment becomes available for district ceremonial occasions such as Anzac Day parades and the like. And the regiment makes available a uniformed officer to attend "upon His Worship the Mayor" on important official occasions. Mr Workman said
now that Irirangi is decommissioned, an association between
Ohakune and one of the regiment's sub-units was possible, "if that is
what Ohakune would like". The charter reads:
