District plan no easier?
The Ruapehu District Council issued the Proposed Ruapehu District Plan on 6 December 1994 and I believe the contents of this document have an effect on many of your readers. The ratepayers and land owners and users in the district should make an effort now to read the plan which is available at the Council offices. The plan gives details of new zones, rules for subdivisions, riparian management, special activities, building and many other matters affecting our land. Some of the details need to be questioned and this must be done prior to 10 March 1995. For example,
why is Council setting rules on how the rate payers can grow their trees. On rural land one tree for aesthetic purposes is deemed to be 'forestry' with specific requirements of where they cannot be planted, ie. within 20 metres of your boundary. Nodding thistles can be grown everywhere. Perhaps you could assist by providing specific examples to raise awareness of other issues. The new plan is very complex and sets many rules without making planning any easier. I believe it was meant to be less complex!
