Plateau makes the weather map
It's official — Waiouru is now on the map — the TV3 weather map that is. As part of their recent revamp of weather services, TV3 introduced Waiouru to their nightly forecasts on 16 January. TV3 Associate Director of News & Current Affairs, Mike Brockie, told the Bulletin "We are aiming to provide a more complete regional forecast service and are wanting to include as many centres as we can".
The forecasting comes from the Meteorological Service in Wellington and it was after discussions with them on which missing areas could be added that the decision to include Waiouru was made. Several years ago, previous Bulletin editor Dennis Beytagh campaigned to have somewhere on the Central Plateau included in television' s weather reports. At that time he was advised to look at Rotorura's forecast and temperatures to get an idea of weather in the Waimarino and Waiouru.
