Raetihi access solution delayed
A letter of confirmation from Raetihi Marae to allow access aross its properties for other properties east of Raetihi, on Valley Road, has still not been received the Waimarino Community Board was told at their meeting last week. The permission is needed to allow access across the land and a privately owned bridge. Board chairman Colin Webb said he had spoken to marae representative Mark Cribb on the matter, and that Mr Cribb had said it was very difficult to get agreement because there were 78 individual landowners. He said Mr Cribb believed there was no possible way they could make a contribution to the plan. Council intends to pay the owner of the bridge for the right for the landowners to use it to access their land, but it relies on marae land owners' cooperation. Mayor Garrick Workman suggested a meeting of all affected parties be set up.
