College scholars, '94

Ruapehu College pupil Joanne Barclay was one of just 56 Sixth Form Certificate candidates to obtain five or lore Grade One marks in 1994. This was out of 46,000 andidates who entered 185,656 subjects. She won the grades in English, maths, physics, biology nd chemistry, and also received a Grade Two mark in omputer studies. Joanne is attending Ruapehu College in the Seventh -orm this year and intends to study medicine at Auckland Jniversity. Other Ruapehu College achievers in 1994 included Victoria Duigan whose School Certificate marks in five ubjects totalled405. Her marks were 83 in maths, history nd English, 82 in science and 74 in geography. This year he is studying maths, media studies, chemistry, physics, >iology and history. Victoria says she has no set career ilans at this stage but intends to go to university. Charmian Oh's School Certificate marks totalled 395, n chemistry, biology, maths, English and physics. She opes to gain an athletics scholarship overseas and study ledicine. Amy Smith achieved a total of 371 in School Certifiate. She is studying English, maths, history, accounting nd economics. She plans to study economics and politics t university. Tonia Lumsden has no fixed career plans but also hopes > attend university. Her SC total was 365, the fourthighest for the college for 1 994. This year she is studying laths, accounting, economics, art and media studies. From the 1994 Seventh Form, two pupils gained B lursaries — Patricia Tuthill and Nathan Davies, and six thers gained entry to university out of a total of 1 1 who sat le exams.
