Local radio station sold
The local radio station Peak FM has been sold. New owners Brent Birchfield and Geoff Anderson are to take over the station, based in Ohakune, as from 1 March, according to a press release. Mr Birchfield operates two South Island stations and one in Masterton. Mr Anderson, presently operations manager of Hitz 89FM in Masterton, will be moving to Ohakune to manage Peak FM. Geoff Anderson has been involved in radio since 1969. Mr Anderson said he is looking forward to living in the area and the challenge of the new job. Robert Howard, who is a saies consultant with Hitz
89FM, will also be moving to Peak FM. The current directors of the founding company, Bruce Anderson and Ron Jeffares, said they will now concentrate on their business interests in Wanganui. "We are pleased to have accomplished originating local radio for the Ruapehu and Taihape districts and wish the new operators and our present staff well in continuing to provide a community radio service for the 18,000 residents now reached by Peak FM," Mr Jeffares said. Radio sold
FROMPAGEl in Taumarunui. Coverage was extended in May last year when a new transmitter was commissioned to reach the Taihape district and studios established in Ohakune. The Taumarunui station was later sold.
