Horopito School & district reunion this weekend
The railway settlement, the mills, the shops and many of the houses have gone from Horopito and those who pass through may be forgiven if they consider Horopito to be just a name on the map, But to those who lived, went to school and worked in Horopito, there remains a certain magic and energy about the place. This coming weekend a Horopito School celebration programme is planned and visitors are expected from many parts of New Zealand. Registration is on Friday night, 3 February, 6.30-9.00pm at Ohakune Hotel where name tags will be given and class & years will be noted. At Horopito School on Saturday, 9- 10.00am registration continues. At 10am is the official welcome and opening, followed by the cake cutting by the youngest and oldest and the youngest past pupils. The roll call, school district and decade photos are to follow, then lunch. At 1 .30pm tour of Horopito. On Saturday evening, 7.30pm is drinks at the Ohakune Primary School hall, followed by a dinner and dance. On Sunday a thanksgiving service and unveiling of a memorial plaque is to be held followed by a barbecue lunch.
