Ohakune bowls wrap-up

The summer holiday season has been very busy with mini-tournaments, open tournaments and championship play along with challenges for the Pluck Cup, a trophy to be played for among clubs of the Wanganui Women' s Centre. At the recent sponsored pairs tournament in Ohakune a full green of 16 teams played. Winners were Ken and Merrilyn George, runners up were Tony Mosaed and Paul Turner. Over New Year's holiday s Ken George acquitted himself well in the national singles competitions, winning 4 straight games, only going out in the second round of post section play to Brian Barker of Christchurch, a recent national title holder. He and Tony Mosaed were not so successful qualifying for post section play. An Ohakune ladies team and a composite team will be returning to the Masters Tournament to defend their titles from 1993 when they were held in Wanganui.
