Waiouru speed petition grows

A petition to reduce the speed limit through the Waiouru township has so far attracted more than 500 signatures. Petition organiser and community boardmemberMargaret Cross said she hoped the petition would be on the agenda to be presented to Transit New Zealand at the next community board meeting, due to be held on 13 February. Petition organisers have started the campaign because they believe both SH1 and SH49 have no safe area for pedestrians to cross. The petition aims to reduce the speed limit from 70k/h to 50 k/h and is still available for signature at Threads.
