National Park dispute settled
Ruapehu's mayor, Garrick Workman, has announced that the long running dispute over contract payments to Asphaltic Construction Limited which started in the days of the Taumarunui County had been resolved with that Company and that as a
consequence any further litigation is to be discontinued. A final settlement had been concluded after negotiations between the Council's chief executive Cliff Houston and the manPLEASE TURN TO PAGE 12

The final settlement figure agreed was $505,000 (not including GST but including. interest on the award which was backdated to 1988, and legal costs). The settlement figure was well within the loan authority the Council had for the projecf Both parties agreed that the settlement was fair and appropriate considering all the circumstances as neither wished to engage in further litigation. "It's time to put this dispute behind us and get on with a number of current issues," Mr Worlman said.
