Waiouru farewells yet another member of the community with the departure of Prue Woodard, practice nurse. After two years in Waiouru and 16 months as practice nurse at the civilian surgery, Prue moves on to Australia this week. Her husband Mark is to study at Queenscliff near Melbourne. Prue and Mark have been
posted to Waiouru several times. "Each time we've come back there's been an improvement in the houses. When we first moved here we had open fires and no carpet. Those houses were cold! When we first came back and had those fireplaces, those new ones, it was just magic." "We like it. We enjoy it here. It's a good place for the kids to grow up and it's
a supportive community. I suppose because we're small we look after each other." Prue said she really enjoy ed working at the surgery because of the variety. "You never know from one minute to the next what' s going to come in the door or what I'm going to see. I loved it. It's the first time I'd been a practice nurse. The contact with the people, the variety. I got a
lot out of it." Prue intends working in Australia and said she is looking forward to working in a hospital again. "It's good as a refresher, good for practice nursing." Prue and her family will return to New Zealand at the end of the year when Mark has finished his studies at Queenscliff.
