Council calls for more sports grounds use
The council is presently maintaining parks which have space for 14 winter code sports fields. Only two of these are presently being used by organised sporting codes. About $100,000 per year of the annual budget of $483,000 for parks and reserves would be spent on maintaining sports fields and the surrounding areas. During winter not all of the available space is used on a regular basis. A nominal charge is made to sporting codes to use a particular field. Use of fields by children is free. As the grounds are maintained to a high standard throughout the year the Council would like to encourage greater use of the facilities, said council chief executive Cliff Houston
