Kohanga reo

# Concerning the proposed kohanga reo in Karamu Place, I would like to make the following comment: Go for it. The future of our young people both Maori and Pakeha depends upon the basic values they are taught at an early age. If they can be given a valid and worthwhile grounding in their culture and a sense of pride in their place in it then their future as New Zealanders has been given a head start. The concerns raised by residents in your paper two issues ago are valid and need to be addressed, particularly the one about noise as there are a number of shift workers in the street.

I take the view that in the event of property values decreasing slightly because of this it could be looked upon as an investment in New Zealand' s future. I see no reason why they should if the kohanga reo is well run. To the proposed trustees must go my admiration for your efforts on behalf of your young people and I would like to issue a challenge: Give us a kohanga reo we can be proud to live next door to.
